📊 Indian Share Market Weekly Review – Week Ending 28 February 2026

Insights, Key Trends & What Investors Should Know

The Indian stock market ended the week on a weak and cautious note, reflecting broader global uncertainty, sustained foreign fund outflows, sector rotation, and geopolitical influences. Both benchmark indices, BSE Sensex and NSE Nifty 50, saw notable downside pressure this week as investor sentiment shifted from cautious optimism to risk aversion.

During the week ending February 28, 2026, both major market benchmarks closed lower:

· Nifty 50 drifted into a corrective phase and ended the week down approximately 1.5%, trading in a volatile range throughout the week.

· BSE Sensex also declined, with significant selling pressure particularly on Friday as markets lost momentum.

Overall market breadth remained weak, reflecting a cautious risk-off sentiment across most sectors.

_🔻_{Global Cues & Geopolitical Tensions}

Heightened geopolitical tensions, particularly around Middle East developments, weighed heavily on global risk assets and Indian equities. Rising uncertainty pushed investors toward safer assets, dampening market participation.

_📉_{IT Sector Weakness Intensifies}

The Indian technology sector witnessed significant weakness as tech stocks fell sharply:

· The Nifty IT index posted its worst monthly performance in nearly two decades, with substantial erosion in market capitalisation.

· Heavyweights such as Infosys experienced deep losses, marking some of the weakest monthly returns in recent history amid concerns around artificial intelligence-related disruption.

Investors are debating whether rapid AI adoption will negatively impact traditional outsourcing and billing models — a key driver behind the tech stock sell-offs.

_💸_{Foreign Institutional Activity}

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) turned cautious this week, with increased selling in Indian equities. This trend amplified pressure on markets and contributed to broader weakness in benchmark indices.

Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs), however, provided intermittent support, even as overall sentiment remained tilted toward selling.

_🏦_{Sector Performance Highlights}

· Auto, FMCG, Realty and some banking stocks underperformed as risk sentiment weakened.

· Select sectors like IT & Media showed relative resilience at times.

· Midcap and smallcap indices extended declines, indicating a broad-based market correction.

_📈_{What This Means for Investors}

📌 Market Outlook: The Indian market remains in a corrective phase, with technical indicators suggesting potential further volatility in the near term.

📌 Risk Sentiment: Global inflation dynamics, geopolitical risk, and continuous FII selling are key risks that investors are monitoring closely.

📌 Sector Rotation: Investors may consider hedging exposure or rotating into defensive sectors while waiting for clearer trend signals.

_🔍_{Strategic Takeaways}

1. Maintain Diversification: Especially in volatile macro conditions, diversification can protect portfolios against concentrated sector weaknesses.

2. Stay Informed on Global Events: Geopolitics and macroeconomic trends still dominate equity market direction.

3. Focus on Quality: Strong balance sheets and stable cash flows often outperform in uncertain market phases.
